Bulk Bag, Small Bag & Drum Handling

Powder often enters and leaves a plant in super sacks, small bags, and drums. Efficiently and effectively handling these containers is crucial. Every connection between a container and the process is a chance for dust to escape and product to be lost. GQI specs this equipment, complete solution or legacy system upgrade, based on your application: the product, the container actually in service, the containment level required, and the equipment on the other side.

The GQI Approach

Designed Around the Container

FIBC connections · bag-dump stations · drum handling, specified & delivered through GQI

A container handling system works best when it is designed precisely for the container showing up at the facility. That's why GQI's specification starts with the bag or drum itself, spout diameters, liner, loop type, full and empty dimensions, in conjunction with material characteristics and peripheral process demands.

  • Filling and discharging, engineered separately
  • Sized to the actual bag: spout, liner, loops, clearance
  • 304 / 304L / 316 / 316L stainless or carbon steel
  • Weld finishes from industrial to pharma electropolished
  • Executions for hazardous dust & explosivity concerns
  • High-containment options up to OEB-rated systems

Bulk Bag Discharging

FIBC discharge connections: bottom spout to your process

Discharging connects the bottom spout of a full FIBC to whatever comes next: a hopper, a screw or rotary feeder, a conveyor. The connection is sized to the outlet spout of the bag actually in service, and the options are chosen for the dust behavior of the product: dedusting connections pull away displaced air, liner clamps control the inner liner, and exchangeable inner tubes let one station serve bags with different outlet diameters.

  • Sized to the outlet spout: diameter, length above & below tie
  • Exchangeable inner tube for varying FIBC outlets
  • Liner clamping device for lined bags
  • Dedusting / evacuation connection
  • Dust filter or filter retrofit kit
  • WIP: integrated wash-in-place spray nozzle
Application: Filling Bulk Bags

Bulk Bag Filling

FIBC fill connections: fill head to the top spout

Filling connects a fill head to the top spout of an empty FIBC. The fill connection mounts under the equipment doing the dosing (a fill head, feed system, or weigh frame), so GQI specs it against the inlet spout diameter, the bag construction (loops, liner), and the full-bag weight and dimensions your process produces. The same containment options apply: dedusting to handle displaced air, hazardous-dust execution where explosivity concerns demand it.

  • Sized to the inlet (fill) spout diameter
  • Mounts under fill heads, dosing / feed & weigh frames
  • Bag construction accounted for: loops, liner, weight
  • Dedusting / evacuation of displaced air
  • Air-regulator kit for pneumatic functions
  • Hazardous-dust execution available

Small Container Handling

Bag-dump stations & drum filling, discharging & tipping: sacks ~25 kg / 50 lb · drums 30 gal, 55 gal / 200 L & custom

Small containers cover two jobs, filling and discharging, and GQI specs both. When product arrives in sacks an operator can lift, a bag-dump station keeps the dust at the station instead of in the room, specced around the sacks, bags per hour, and what the station feeds. Drums and kegs discharge into the process with a tipper or lift column, a containment cone at the connection, and dust extraction where the product needs it; or fill to a target weight with dust containment during the fill and drum indexing where throughput demands it. Dust control scales from a simple hood to an integral filter to full high-containment execution.

  • Integral dust filter, hood or extraction / vent connection
  • De-bagging grate & bag compactor for empty sacks
  • Open-top, tight-head & fiber / keg drums
  • Full inversion / tipper & lift column / hoist
  • Fill head with dosing / weigh control & fill accuracy
  • Drum clamp, indexing / turntable & lid handling
  • Feeds hoppers, screeners, conveyors & pneumatic lines
  • Food-grade / FDA · hazardous-dust builds · mobile on castors

Containment

High Containment, When the Product Demands It

OEB-driven containment: up to glovebox systems

Some products set the containment level for you. Where an OEB (occupational exposure band) requirement applies, GQI offers high-containment FIBC connection systems, such as the Hecht HCVS, and high-containment / glovebox executions of bag-dump and drum stations. The specific system is selected with GQI engineering against your OEB level and hazardous-area classification.

  • High-containment FIBC connection systems (e.g. Hecht HCVS)
  • High-containment / glovebox bag-dump & drum options
  • Specified against your OEB level
  • Class / Div / Group execution for hazardous dust

Built to the Duty: Alloys, Finishes & Seals

Materials of construction are locked in at specification (contact and non-contact surfaces separately) so hygienic, abrasive, and hazardous-area duties get the build they need.

Alloys, Contact & Non-Contact

304 / 1.4301, 304L, 316, 316L stainless or carbon steel, specified separately for product-contact and non-contact surfaces.

Weld Finishes to Pharma Grade

From industrial as-welded through sanitary ground-flush, dairy crevice-free (Ra ≤ 0.8 µm), and pharma (Ra ≤ 0.5 µm / electropolished).

Seals & Elastomers

EPDM (FDA), platinum-cured silicone (FDA), nitrile, FKM / Viton, PTFE / FEP, and polyurethane. Every acceptable option captured at specification.

Sleeves & Sock Fabrics

PU-coated polyester, food-grade / FDA PU, antistatic / conductive (Type C), and PTFE-coated fabrics for the flexible elements of the connection.
